The West Charlotte ACE team competed with six other local high schools again this year at the 2011 CANstruction event held at Discovery Place in Charlotte. The theme they chose this year was "Panthers Clawing Away Hunger - One Can at a Time" and was represented by a Panthers football helmet, curved sides and all! It was quite the structural challenge considering the rules do not allow the use tape to hold things together because all the cans are donated to local food pantries and need to have the labels intact. Nonetheless, we managed to work it out.
All structures were scored for - theme, artistic representation, structural design, use of labels and best meal. The competition was particularly stiff this year and Hopewell came away with the win. Second Harvest confirmed the Charlotte CANstruction competition donated 3,676 pounds of food!
