About Fitzpatrick Engineering Group
Founded in October 2004 by Douglas G. Fitzpatrick, P.E., Fitzpatrick Engineering Group is a single discipline structural engineering firm with a large base of project experience including commercial, health care, senior living, churches, movie theaters, warehouses and institutional buildings. We are well versed in steel, conventionally reinforced concrete, post-tensioned concrete, wood and masonry. We also leverage propriety solutions like SidePlate and Ecospan where appropriate.
We are a Charlotte area structural engineering design firm specializing in compressing design/fabrication schedules through BIM to create opportunities for owners to occupy their buildings sooner. We have case studies that show we can successfully shorten the delivery of steel to our projects by eight weeks.

Douglas G. Fitzpatrick, P.E.
President
Doug Fitzpatrick has over 35 years of structural engineering experience with 30 of those years including project management. He has been involved in all aspects of projects from schematic design through construction administration and is still actively involved in projects on a regular basis.
Doug started Fitzpatrick Engineering Group in 2004 and is the thought leader for the firm. He strives to identify ways Fitzpatrick Engineering Group can lead the way to making our projects more efficient both during design and during construction and is the sole innovator of our Complete Structural Package™ for steel and tilt-up construction.
Qui H. Nguyen, P.E.
Senior Project Engineer
Qui has been with Fitzpatrick Engineering Group since 2005 and brings an additional seven years of experience to the office. He is involved in all aspects of the projects from schematic design through construction administration. His project types include hospitals, medical office buildings, office buildings, education, condos and churches.
Qui shares the role of day-to-day project management and enjoys teaching our young engineers best practices.
David J. Goodman, P.E.
Project Engineer
David has been with Fitzpatrick Engineering since 2013 and brings an additional 12 years of building design experience to the firm. He is involved in all aspects of the projects from schematic design through construction administration.
His background includes bridge, parking deck and building projects using precast concrete, post-tensioned concrete and steel. At Fitzpatrick Engineering Group his project types include office buildings and retail but also a significant amount of non-building projects and unique structural analysis and design.
Devin P. Horner, EIT
Project Engineer
Devin has been with Fitzpatrick Engineering Group since 2016 and brings an additional two years of experience. He is involved in all aspects of the projects from schematic design through construction administration.
His project experience includes multi-family, senior living, hotels, retail, medical office buildings and branch banks. Structural design includes steel, conventional and post-tensioned concrete and wood. He possesses an aptitude for problem solving and the ability to articulate conceptual design ideas into practical functionality.
